William D. Savage received his Juris Doctor from Wayne State University Law School in 2017, after earning a B.A. in History from Oakland University in 2013.
While still in law school, Mr. Savage worked as a paid law clerk at the Disability Law Center, where he played a major role in successful litigation against the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services. That case required the Department to provide medical devices so that non-verbal Michigan students could receive the education they deserve.
From 2015 to 2017, he worked at Fildew Hinks, PLC with John J. Conway on behalf of the largest air ambulance provider in the country. The litigation, concentrated in the federal district and circuit courts of the Ninth Circuit, challenged health insurers' practice of paying for covered emergency air ambulance services at a fraction of their actual cost, which exposed insured patients to crushing medical bills.
At Ayad Law
Since 2017, Mr. Savage has worked with Nabih H. Ayad on matters of public importance, including:
- Developing the legal theory for voter redistricting litigation that ultimately succeeded in federal court after the Michigan Supreme Court dismissed a challenge on the same theories
- Litigating on behalf of people harmed by federal No Fly List regulations
- Urging the Sixth Circuit to recognize, as other circuits have, that a prisoner's reasonable fear of retaliation is just cause to wait until release to sue their custodians
- Advocating for the rights of mentally incompetent criminal defendants in federal court
Mr. Savage enjoys representing people who have few other advocates. He has also represented high-profile clients, including the mayor of a major city and a well-known public figure whose life has been the subject of several documentaries and a Hollywood film.
